Citizenship by naturalization can be obtained following the uninterrupted residence of the applicant in Cyprus for at least 7 years.

Following application, the final decision from the Minister of Internal Affairs may be deliverd between 1-2 years, provided that all supportive documentation is in order. Amongst other requirements, the applicant must prove that he has not left the country for a period of no more than 25 days in a year preceding the application and that he/she is of clean criminal record.

Applications for citizenship by naturalization are being processed dramatically faster in 2018 than previous years, following the decision and directions of the Minister of Internal Affairs who recognised the problems who caused the big delays in the processing system.
